Invisible people is a wonderful ministry that interviews homeless people in mostly North America. Its founder Mark Horvath was once homeless himself, facing drug addiction and the perils of living without a home. Now, Mark is doing what he can to help the homeless population by giving them a voice on his YouTube channel and website.
Although not overtly Christian, this ministry doesn't discriminate with those that are. The empathy and work being done by this ministry are values of the Christian faith regardless.
The interviews are kept around 10 minutes, as Mark himself ask each person basically the same type of questions, always ending it with asking them "If you had three wishes what would they be?" Of course, he thanks them for talking with him at the end.
The love, empathy, understanding, and compassion shown by Mark is truly inspiring, as are the testimonies and stories presented by these "invisible people" among us.
Personally, I absolutely love this ministry, and my wife and I have started giving to it with part of our tithe each month. What Mark and the people he works with are doing is so very needed in this country and world.
When I first came across the Invisible People YouTube channel I was hooked for hours every night for about a week, watching these compelling and amazing interviews. The types of homeless people interviewed are so varied; the scope of personalities and circumstances really give the viewer a better understanding of the nature of why people end up homeless, and why they shouldn't be treated with such disdain and condemnation.
Mainly, what I've learned validates what I've seen and experienced myself when ministering to the homeless and being homeless myself, which is: homeless people very often have wisdom, strength, and empathy that "regular" people simply don't have. The humbling experience of becoming homeless, and all the tragedies this often entails, gives homeless people these virtues.
This gives the Holy Bible even more credence, when Jesus Christ says in Mathew 5: 3-9
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
I understand there are many homeless people who aren't these things, yet the hard circumstances they're subjected to (whether their fault or not) are more conductive to leading them to become these things, rather than those who don't struggle in such a way and never have to reckon with their faults and demons -- and the realities of a horribly unjust economic system.
Invisible People is a great ministry to follow and support; everyone involved with it will be blessed. May God bless and protect: Mark, this ministry, and all the homeless people who suffer in this country (America) and the world, in Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.
